WORKING ENVIRONMENTS Shadowing - Group 4

 

I have been shadowing a office complex with twentyfour different companies working in side-by-side offices. During my shadowing I was looking into how companies in general can adopt digital into their offices. I came up with three factors of which I believe would gain on having a digitalized office. Personalization, simplicity and timesaving. 

The most offices I looked at had a calm environment, light colors and some open spaces. The human behavior on these offices were pretty strict, serious and non-smiling. All this of course depends on what kind of businesses the company are doing, but overall it felt like this was the melody. I also noticed that there were no change during lunch, the same faces and serious attitudes were still there actually. 

These were common offices, nothing spectacular. It did’nt feel very inspiring to be honest. But I know there exists worse places to be working. 

Some of the daily routines are smoking, WC visits, lunchbreak. That’s the top3 most common routines during a day. I believe there’s a lot that can be done to make these breaks more efficient and energizing.

I would like to see offices and all kinds of different work environments to use digital services to provide a more personalized, simple and timesaving style of working. 

The digital services should be an essential part in a office. Their main purpose is to give the workers all that they need to perform on top and feel needed, at all time.

- CREATIVE IDEAS TO CREATE A BETTER DIGITALIZED OFFICE

  • To make the office more personalized you could make it possible to customize your workspace in different kinds of ways. Making the colors of your walls change depending on your mood, the weather outside or what kind of work you’re doing at the moment for example, you can have pictures of your family if you want. Anything that makes you comfortable.
  • A coffeemachine that knows exactly what every employee wants.
  • A fridge with a built in computer where you can order what kind of lunch you want for the next day. The next day a ordering firm delivers the ordered foods/drinks to the fridge, ready to eat.
  • A smoking-tube where you can smoke your cigarettes. This lets you smoke your cigarettes inside without having to take a longer break from your job. Making your working hours more efficient.
  • Information and tasks inside the company can be shared in a network instead of always being delivered by paper or face-to-face talks. This could preferably be done with Ipad/Tablet PC’s. An mobile application for this would work as a kind of schedule were you have full coverage of deadlines and meetings etc.
  • A mobile application that has got full coverage of the company. The app can for example manage all of the above ideas. Order lunch to the fridge, telling what kind of coffee you want, personalizing your workspace and so on. A company app could be customized in any special way, depending on what the company is doing.
